Picking Flowers:

One of the major problems when buying flowers is that most of us don't know how to pick them out. Since we all want the flowers we give to others to last long and look beautiful, remember to always pick blooms that are full of life.

  • Look at them and you will be able to tell. If they are drooping or if their petals are dropping, these are not the flowers to buy. Instead pick those that are firm and plump.
  • Also check that disease is not beginning to set in or that insects haven't eaten away parts of the flowers.
  • Look at the stem and prefer those that appear clean and unbroken.
  • Look at the leaves, If they are healthy, it means that the plant is healthy too.

Things Not to Do:

If you like to pick flowers and then make your very own bouquet, here are some things not to do when making one.

  • If you are going to cut off the stem a little bit, do it under flowing water. This will preserve them for a longer time.
  • Do not remove the leaves when creating the flower arrangement because leaves help keeping the flower fresh.
  • Do not arrange flowers with your bare hands. If you do, always wet them because the oil on your hands might affect the colour of the flowers.
  • If you are planning to create a flower arrangement with daffodils, be aware that the daffodils take in a lot more water and this will cause the other flowers to wilt.
